The Indian Gentian (Gentiana kurroo Royle) is a commonly used plant in the Ayurvedic school of medicine. Researchers discovered that the Indian Gentian has potential anti-inflammatory activity. This study, which was published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, looked at the different bioactive compounds in the Indian Gentian and evaluated their bioactivities.
Results of the study show that the methanol extract of Indian Gentian can suppress immune response and inflammation. The exhibited biological activities can be attributed to the glycosides, alkaloids, and flavonoids present in the plant. These results prove that the Indian Gentian and its bioactive compounds can potentially be used for the treatment of inflammatory disorders.
